Born in Fremont,
Ohio...Lettered in football at Ross High in Fremont,
Ohio...Completed high school career holding school all-time
records in rushing with 3,861 yards and in scoring with 466
points...Amassed 5,996 all-purpose yards during prep
career...Recorded 63 tackles with five pass deflections, four
interceptions, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery
returned for a touchdown and 15 punt returns for 293 yards
including two scores...As a senior running back, rushed for
2,028 yards while scoring 230 points to earn Ohio Mr. Football
honors...Blue Chip Illustrated, Prep Football Report and USA
Today All-American selection as a senior...Chosen as the No. 3
overall prospect in the midwest by Super Prep and the No. 1
defensive back in the Midwest...Was also named Midwest Region
Co-MVP as a senior...Also lettered twice in basketball as a
guard and in track and field as a sprinter, member of the
school's relay teams and long jumper. |
Pro Career
Celebrated performer and Raiders top pick in 1998, Heisman Trophy
winner and who was named 1998: Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1998
following standout first NFL campaign...Became first Raider to start
all 16 league games in the defensive backfield since 1971 (Jack
Tatum at safety)...Led all defensive backs with 64 tackles, third
best among defenders and tied with Eric Allen for team lead in
interceptions with five, returning one 46 yards for touchdown on
October 4 at Arizona...Led Raiders in passes defensed with 21...His
five interceptions were the highest among Raider rookies since
Charles Phillips' six in 1975...Also contributed two forced
fumbles...In pro league game debut, posted season-high seven tackles
along with forced fumble during September 6 game against Kansas
City...Returned first career interception 27 yards on September 27
at Dallas...Had six stops, two passes defensed and one forced fumble
on November 15 versus Seattle...Recorded a season-high five passes
defensed to go along with three tackles and an interception late in
December 20 contest at San Diego...Raiders first round pick in 1998
draft (fourth player taken).

games played...First predominantly defensive player to win Heisman
Trophy and became seventh player who has won college football's top
award to play for the Raiders, joining Billy Cannon, Jim Plunkett,
Marcus Allen, Bo Jackson, Tim Brown and Desmond Howard...Played
cornerback but also saw action as punt and kickoff returner and at
wide receiver...Entered NFL Draft following junior season and was a
member of the Co-National Champion Wolverines in 1997...Selected as
unanimous All-American & All-Big Ten Conference First Team pick...Bo
Schembechler Team Most Valuable Player...Earned Chevrolet, Bronko

tackles, seven picks, 33 punt returns for 282 yards and a touchdown,
